Set within a faithfully reconstructed Roman castellum (fort), the museum blends cutting-edge architecture, live archaeology, and interactive learning to bring the ancient past vividly into the present. Some Highlights of Museum Hoge Woerd Utrecht

The Roman Ship “De Meern 1”
A 2,000‑year‑old Roman river cargo vessel discovered with its complete inventory—housed in a dramatic glass gallery. Dubbed "a piece of Pompeii in northern Europe," it's one of the most significant finds in Northwestern Europe.

Castellum & Ramparts
The six-meter-high wooden fortification walls (ramparts) faithfully follow the original contours of the Roman castellum.

Castellum & Ramparts
The ramparts also house “time windows”—3D-visualisation stations offering glimpses of the fortress’s past layout, including the bathhouse, harbor, cemetery, and garrison village.
