Located in the heart of Rotterdam, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen offers a comprehensive survey of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present day. Established in 1849 through the bequest of lawyer Frans Jacob Otto Boijmans, the museum expanded its collection significantly in 1958 with the acquisition of works from shipping magnate Daniël George van Beuningen .

The museum's extensive collection encompasses over 151,000 artworks, including paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, and design objects . Notable artists represented in the collection include Hieronymus Bosch, Rembrandt, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Salvador Dalí .

Currently, the main museum building is closed for major renovations. However, the museum's collection remains accessible through exhibitions in other institutions and at the adjacent Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen

Opened in November 2021, the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen is the world's first publicly accessible art storage facility . Designed by architectural firm MVRDV, the depot features a striking mirrored exterior and offers visitors a unique behind-the-scenes look at art preservation and curation.

The depot houses the museum's entire collection, allowing visitors to explore artworks not currently on display in traditional galleries. In addition to viewing stored artworks, visitors can observe conservation work and enjoy panoramic views of Rotterdam from the rooftop garden and restaurant .
