Anne Frank House Museum Amsterdam
Anne Frank House Museum Amsterdam
Who Was Anne Frank? Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1929. In 1934, her family fled to the Netherlands to escape rising antisemitism under Hitler's Nazi regime. When the Nazis invaded the Netherlands in 1940, the Frank family was soon forced into hiding to avoid deportation. In July 1942, Anne, her parents (Otto and Edith), sister (Margot), and four other Jews went into hiding in a secret annex behind her father’s business. During their two years in hiding, Anne kept a detailed diary that vividly captured her thoughts, hopes, fears, and the realities of life in confinement. In August 1944, they were discovered and arrested. Anne died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in early 1945. Only Otto Frank survived.
